Nature / Hiking

 

In Murcia there are 7 protected natural areas, good for hours of walking pleasure:

* Salinas y Arenales de San Pedro del Pinatar (located at walking distance from the apartment). The flamingos are present all year and     here are also the well known mud baths. Info: click here

* El Valle y Carrascoy. Located between the Mar Menor and Murcia with heights of 200 till 1.000 meters. Be sure to visit the                   "Santuaria de la Fuensanta". Info: click here

* Sierra Espuña. Very special area with heights from 200 till 1.500 meters. The "Barranco de Gebas" is breathtaking. Info: click here

* Calblanque. Located between the Mar Menor and the Mediterranean Sea, it is a nature reserve with inhospitable heights alternated       with long, golden beaches. Info: click here

* Sierra de la Pila. Located in the northwest of Murcia and it is a protected bird area. Info: click here

* Sierra del Carche. Located in the wine regions of Jumilla and Yecla, in the northeast of Murcia. Info: click here

* Calnegre y Cabo Cope. Located in the south of Murcia on the westernmost part of the coast and has 17 km of coastline. Info: click         here

In addition, the valley of Ricote and Cieza is also worth exploring. The Moorish past of Murcia is still really noticeable here. In spring, during the flowering period, a visit is a must. Info: click here

Golf

The Costa Cálida / Costa Blanca South is a region that is known for its many golf courses that all have a specific character and are distinguished by different characteristics. The water hazards, island holes, large differences in height and bunkers put everyone's technical skills to the test.
In the close environment you will find no fewer than 20 golf courses.

Watersports / Diving

The waters around Cabo de Palos, in the south of the Mar Menor, are a maritime reserve of 19,000 m². The reserve "Islas Hormigas" is visited by divers and diving schools who come from far and wide to admire the beautiful underwater flora and fauna. It is one of the best areas for diving in the Mediterranean with also a large number of shipwrecks.
The Mar Menor itself offers many opportunities for water sports. The shallow and enclosed sea is an ideal place for surfing, kite-surfing, sailing, canoeing, water skiing, jet skiing, ...

Cycling

Murcia is an excellent cycling destination with excellent roads for mountain bike and racing bike.
Mountain bike
The paths between Cabo de Palos and Cartagena are in good condition and are located in the impressive landscape of the former mining area. The trip along the salt pans, the Salinas de San Pedro del Pinatar (Lo Pagán) also deserves a special recommendation.
Cycling on the road
There are a number of nice cycling routes in Murcia. The regional cycling routes are part of the almost 6.000 km long "Euro Velo 8" route. The cycling routes are also part of the network "Via Verde". More info: click here

In the region there are several fun theme parks where young and old can enjoy themselves. From splashing slides to fun activities for the little ones:
